Can I use the pink fibergl insulation to infill between my fireplace opening & my masonry wall?

I have a varying 1" - 2" gap between my metal & gl fireplace screen & the natural stone & mortar wall / chimney. I know the paper on the fibergl will burn, but will the fibergl?
