Scraping ice off my car rear window?

Can I sc the ice off my rear window even though it has those black lines going across it? Or do I have to wait for the defrost lines to melt it? I think I've heard that you shouldn't if you can feel the lines on the outside, but I can only feel the little ridges on the inside.
