Horse riding arenas: Has anyone ever used a mixture of sand grit and rubber as a surface for a school?

just wondered if its a decent surface for an outdoor riding school, if anyone has an opinion on them, any possible disadvantages and any cheap ish alternatives, that would be great. (this surface would be used with a drainage system in place) Thanks :)
